Summer Internship

By the by, Richard's son Joe is up for the summer with us.
And he has an internship at the fore-mentioned OneOnOne Bicycle Studio as bike mechanic, barista, and gopher.

His dad has been grooming him in bikeology for the last few visits...
here's a pic of them building up Joe's Surly Crosscheck last March in the bike studio/living room and the test drive. I love my Crosscheck.

Joe is also responsible for teaching me, repeatedly, how to anchor an html link for my blog. Go Joe!

Setting a Summer Table

The last Sunday of June.
I've invited Ione out for chops and grilled pineapple.

Richard and I set out on our bikes for the groceries this early afternoon. The birds needed to be fed, so a stop at Tractor Supply was in order. I figured with the bird seed, he had about 80 pounds on that back tire. With all that weight, he'll probably need to have a 36 spoke wheel built at the oneonone bicycle studio.

The pineapple is marinating.

In the meantime, here are some things from the shop that may inspire...

avacado green pitcher

Out of the Comfort Zone

Teaching back to back classes can be a challenge.
Teaching yoga to 11 year-olds took me to a new place in my own practice.
There was a whine midway through the hour... "aren't we going to do toe yoga?"
I don't know "toe yoga."

I invited her to take my place on the mat and she lead the class for several minutes.
While seated, we intertwined our fingers between our toes. We pulled on each toe like we were milking them.
We added pressure to the spot midway between the ball of the foot and the big toe.
Then we slapped our foot.
Repeat on other side.

Now, for the fun. Inhale (I added that) and place your big toe and your pinky on the mat.
Forget about king pigeon or forearm balance...I dare you to put your big toe and pinky on the mat while letting the middle toes float. Now bring your middle toes to the mat and let your big toe and pinky toe lift.

The next group that came in were 16 to 18 year olds, with their feet already ravaged by years of skating, bandaged blisters and bunions to match mine. They were focused and respectful, just like I like 'em.
The class unfolded easily.
Darn it.

Girl's Night Out

It's Wednesday.
And I am grateful.
The art directors and I are getting together for happy hour at an undisclosed location south of the river.
For their summer birthdays, I found a wonderful link
(through etsy alchemy, of course)
to combine our names in typography.

It's Thursday.
They loved the gift.

deSignsbyrenehas thousands of images to choose from and was a peach to work with.

Lucy, I'm Home

When Richard first saw this picture he said, "Ethel Merman, no, Ethel Mertz!"

Jumping In or Teaching a Dinosaur a New Trick

Let's start with a nod to Kevin for making his first purchase on etsy with my shop and sending me some great slide photos from the sixties when he and his family visited Sinclair Dinoland in St Louis MO.

Just so happens that I have a passel full of brochures from this era/event
in my shop
